Vestiges of Freedom

Welcome to the Province of Mercia, a century from now. Horses, hunting, pets, flight, children's games, and books have all been abolished.

Welcome to the Eunion. Regulations prescribe the minutiae of life. Taxes drain the economy. Rules and licences enforce sameness all over. Beurocrats check up on your every move - and those who fall foul of the Eurogime disappear.

Welcome to the world of Eurosprick - the common language of the people of the Eunion a century from now - imposed by Commissioners of Language with penalties for noncompliance.

Welcome to the new feudal order with its alpha, beta, and gamma classes. Latin is the High Eurosprick spoken in the courts, where corruption and intrigue dominate.

Welcome to the blissful world of Robin Bradbury. A wealthy, independently minded artist, whose dream is to ride a horse and whose challenging words, art, and actions bring the authorities' attention closer and closer.

Sample Chapters

Eurosprick

This sample chapter was initially completely written in eurosprick, the language that the European Union enforced on its member states in the run up and aftermath of the Grand Krieg of 2045-60. The published version is in normal English, but we've put this chapter up to get a flavour of what words and language may be like.

And here is the penultimate draft of the first chapter in 'English translation'.

English version

A glossary is added to the end of the published book.
